My animal obsession began at a very young age. When I was two years old, I got my first dog. I quickly realized that dogs do not speak back, love their human companions unconditionally, and never pass judgment on them. Soon after, I developed an appreciation for art. However, it took me many years to muster the courage to combine the two into my dream job.
Born and raised in Western North Carolina, I majored in Fine Art at Western Piedmont Community College and Graphic Design at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. However, the fear of being a “starving artist” prevented me from acting. I switched careers and spent 17 years working in occupational therapy with children with special needs. I encountered many of the typical obstacles that most adults face. However, in 2015, I experienced a life-altering event when my father-in-law passed away and my husband was nearly killed in a terrible car accident. I concluded that life was too short not to at least attempt to pursue my passion. I am so happy that my full-time job lets me combine my love of animals and art.
